History Theatre returns to Lahaina for two performances November 1st and 2nd
Lahaina, Maui- History Theatre returns to Lahaina on Friday, November 1st and Saturday, the 2nd at 6pm. The performances will be held in Waiola Church Graveyard at 535 Waine’e Street, Lahaina. A talented cast brings to life the stories of Hawaii’s past.
History Theatre will feature 3 dramatic monologues, telling stories from the viewpoint of the people that lived them. Kevin Keaveney plays Rev. William Richards, who served as special envoy to Britain and the United States for the Hawaiian Kingdom. Richards is buried at Waiola Church Graveyard. Karen Kaulana plays Hali’a, who will give a harrowing first person account of the smallpox epidemic of 1853 that killed nearly 6000 people. Karen Valasek plays Dr. Sarah Eliza Pierce Emerson, Hawaii’s first licensed female doctor.
History Theatre begins at 6pm, gates open at 5:30 pm. The dramatic portrayals will take place concurrently, with audience members rotating between each actor. History will be held outdoors, so please dress accordingly. Light pupu are included with admission. Free parking is available at Waiola Church parking lot.
Attendance is limited to 90 guests per performance. Purchase tickets early as the last History Theatre quickly sold out. Tickets are $30 per person and are on sale online at www.lahainarestoration.org or by calling Lahaina Restoration Foundation at (808) 661-3262.
History Theatre is brought to Lahaina through a partnership between Lahaina Restoration Foundation and Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives. The performances are hosted by Waiola Church. Funding for History Theatre is provided by the Hawaii Tourism Authority Community Enrichment Program.
